Message from the Minister

Rev. Louis Kinsey, senior minister of St. Columba’s Church St. Columba’s Church has now been in existence for approximately 30 years. It is a growing and changing church; growing in size and maturity, changing in method and strategy. We give God grateful thanks for that. At St. Columba’s Church you will experience a tremendously warm welcome. Friendships that are long-lasting spring up very quickly in our church.

Our long-term hope and prayer, call it vision if you like, is to become a large regional church based on the northern edge of Aberdeen city, humbly serving congregations across the North East of Scotland by offering training, equipping and motivation.

In the 6th century, Columba came to Scotland from Ireland. Our church bears his name, and we like to think of ourselves as having a measure of that same evangelistic spirit, reaching out to all parts of Scotland, carrying the Good News about Jesus wherever our influence extends.

Integral to that is our plan to become a congregation made up of a multitude of smaller congregations. We are trying to involve and include as many believers as we can in small groups, or ‘micro-churches,’ that will each be empowered and authorised to reach out into our society with the Good News concerning Jesus Christ.

We are far from perfect. If you are looking for the perfect church, we advise you not to come to us. We are weak and sinful, like all people, but we have discovered a God who is perfect and all-powerful. He enables us to do things that we could never do by ourselves. He will enable us to see the fulfilment of the vision we have for the church.

Our church is multi-generational. There are people of all ages at St. Columba’s Church, and the age spread is just about even across the board. There are many younger people, including university students in our congregation. We also have many teenagers who benefit from a great Christian education programme tailor-made for them. We are international, and many of our folk come from all over the world.

We emphasise Bible teaching and preaching, as well as lively worship and praise. We like to draw on the best of the past as well as the best of the present. In that way we benefit from the riches of God’s Spirit, given to the church in every age. We are a sending church, and for many years our prayer has been “Lord, call career ministers and missionaries from our church to serve you all over the world.” God has heard and answered that prayer, and we regularly send people away on short and long term mission, as God calls them.

If you feel your heart being stirred as you read these words, why not come and join us? We are on a great spiritual adventure, and we are looking for people who want the best from God, and the best out of life. If you want to experience real church and real Christianity, I invite you warmly to join us at St. Columba’s.

Your friend,

Louis Kinsey
