St. Columba’s Church unashamedly has a big vision. God has brought our church into being for a purpose and we are where we are for a very good reason. Many churches never really understand what God wants them to do and spend years doing good things, but don’t always know if they are doing the right things. We feel that God has spoken to us over a number of years and has gradually shown us our purpose, our reason for existing.
Our church mission statement is: St. Columba’s Church, at the heart of the community with the heart of Jesus.
Our community in Bridge of Don has approximately 12,500 souls living in it, each one infinitely precious to God. Our parish area, roughly-speaking the southern half of Bridge of Don, contains four primary schools and a secondary school. Our church is responsible for four of those five school chaplaincies. In addition, our parish contains a major industrial area as well as a science and technology park.
We believe that God wants us to bring the love and compassion of Jesus Christ into the homes and habitats in which the people who live and work in Bridge of Don can be found, day and night. It’s a massive task, and an exciting one, and with God’s help we are making progress!
